Father of Vietnam football coach Kim Sang-sik passes away

Kim Jong-won, the father of Vietnam national football team head coach Kim Sang-sik, has passed away at his home in Busan, South Korea, at the age of 84.

The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) confirmed the news on September 12. VFF President Tran Quoc Tuan expressed condolences to Coach Kim and his family, granting him permission to return to South Korea to be with his family during this time.

Coach Kim, who recently led Vietnam to victory in the 2026 AFF Cup, has maintained a private personal life during his tenure in Vietnam. His family had traveled to Vietnam to support the team during the AFF Cup final against Thailand, though they did not participate in the post-match celebrations.
