Fatih Akin’s ‘Ghost Song’ to open San Sebastián Film Festival

German filmmaker Fatih Akin’s latest film, ‘Ghost Song’, will serve as the opening title for the 74th San Sebastián Film Festival (Zinemaldia). The world premiere is scheduled for September 18 at the Kursaal following the festival's opening ceremony.

For the first time in his career, Akin will compete for the festival’s top prize, the Golden Shell. The film is described as a poetic drama centered on loss and longing. It stars Mariam Dawoud and Eren M. Güvercin as Farasha and Faris, two characters who fall in love at a graduation party, only for a supernatural connection to form between them through dreams after Farasha’s sudden death.

The 2026 festival is set to run from September 18 to 26 and includes various other notable titles in its Official Selection.
