Fatih Karahan: Misleading ads use Central Bank Governor's name

Misleading digital advertisements using the name and image of Fatih Karahan, the Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey, have been identified on various high-traffic news portals and digital platforms. These advertisements utilize manipulative headlines, such as claims that Karahan has been dismissed or has resigned, to lure users into clicking.

Once clicked, users are redirected from legitimate news sites to fraudulent financial or investment websites operated by cybercriminals. The Turkish Internet Media Union (TİMBİR) has warned that these deceptive practices function as perception operations that undermine digital trust and pose economic risks.

Official records confirm that Fatih Karahan remains in his position, having been appointed as Governor on February 3, 2024. The deceptive content is distributed via third-party digital advertising networks rather than through editorial news content.
