Fatih Municipality begins renovation of 92 historical buildings

Fatih Municipality has launched a renovation project to restore the historical silhouette of Fevzipaşa Avenue and Macar Kardeşler Avenue in Istanbul. The initiative covers 92 buildings across the Akşemsettin, İskenderpaşa, Ali Kuşçu, and Zeyrek neighborhoods.

The project aims to eliminate visual pollution by removing non-compliant additions such as air conditioning units, satellite dishes, cables, awnings, and irregular signage. Building facades are being repainted using colors selected to harmonize with their specific architectural characteristics and the surrounding historical texture. Many of these structures date back to the late Ottoman and early Republican eras.

Fatih Mayor Mehmet Ergün Turan noted that 21 buildings have already been completed. He highlighted that similar previous interventions in the Fener and Balat regions, involving nearly 1,000 buildings, successfully increased local tourism and aesthetic appeal.
