Fatima Al-Moamen released from prison after three-year sentence
Kuwaiti fashionista Fatima Al-Moamen has been released from prison following the completion of a three-year sentence. Her imprisonment stemmed from a fatal traffic accident that occurred in Kuwait on August 24, 2023.
The accident, which took place at the intersection of Al-Sour Street and King Fahd Road, involved Al-Moamen driving at excessive speeds and running a red light. The collision resulted in two deaths and two injuries. Al-Moamen faced ten charges, including manslaughter, speeding, and reckless driving.
In July 2024, the Kuwaiti Court of Cassation upheld the appellate court's decision, sentencing her to three years of imprisonment with labor and a one-year suspension of her driving license. The ruling was based on Article 154 of the Kuwaiti Penal Code, which addresses manslaughter resulting from negligence or failure to follow traffic regulations.
Following her release this Tuesday, Al-Moamen has not yet returned to her social media platforms, such as Snapchat, where she previously documented her daily life. Her release has become a trending topic on social media, with Kuwaiti actress Ilham Al-Fadala offering congratulations to Al-Moamen's sister, lawyer Maryam Al-Moamen.
