Fatima Zahra Mansouri's government consultations delayed by venue dispute

Consultations to form the new Moroccan government have faced a setback due to a disagreement over the venue for a scheduled meeting between the newly appointed Prime Minister, Fatima Zahra Mansouri, and the leadership of the Leftist Alliance.

The Leftist Alliance, represented by Secretaries-General Abdessalam Aziz and Jamal El Asri, initially agreed to participate in the discussions but requested that the meeting take place in a neutral space rather than at the headquarters of the Authenticity and Modernity Party. The Alliance argued that an independent venue would ensure the institutional nature of the meeting between the Prime Minister-designate and political party leaders.

Despite the request, a consensus on the location could not be reached, leading to the postponement of the meeting originally planned for Friday, October 2, 2026. The Leftist Alliance has clarified that its participation in consultations does not signal an intent to join the government, reiterating its commitment to acting as a democratic opposition within Parliament to advocate for social justice, equality, and democratic values.
