Fatimatu Abubakar criticizes Kumasi Mayor over Obuasi SHTS allegations

New Patriotic Party (NPP) member Fatimatu Abubakar has criticized Kumasi Mayor Richard Ofori-Agyemang Boadi, known as Zuba, regarding his response to sexual abuse allegations against Zakaria Abdulai, the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School.

Abubakar challenged the mayor’s reported characterization of the allegations as a possible “weakness with women.” She argued that such framing humanizes the alleged perpetrator while stigmatizing the victims. Abubakar questioned why authorities would engage in informal discussions with the accused rather than referring the matter to the appropriate investigative bodies.

She emphasized that allegations involving schoolchildren must be treated with seriousness and that the priority should remain on student safety and formal investigations rather than reducing the conduct to a discussion about personal attraction.
