Fatoumata Diallo wins bronze and sets national record in 400m hurdles

Fatoumata Diallo won the bronze medal in the 400 metres hurdles at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, marking Portugal's first medal at this competition. Diallo finished with a time of 53.54 seconds, setting a new Portuguese national record and surpassing her previous mark of 54.31 seconds.

Emma Zapletalová of Slovakia took the gold with a time of 52.91 seconds, while Great Britain's Emily Newnham secured silver in 53.33 seconds. Diallo, a 26-year-old athlete from Benfica, attributed her success to rigorous training, the psychological support of her coach Felipe Siqueira, and the strong sense of unity within the Portuguese delegation.

In other events at the Alexander Stadium, Liliana Cá qualified for the discus final with a throw of 61.88 metres. Meanwhile, Pedro Pichardo successfully qualified for the men's triple jump final.
