FAU case: Opposition challenges tax authority actions from Babiš era
Opposition politicians in the Czech Republic are criticizing the actions of the financial administration regarding the FAU case, which occurred during Andrej Babiš’s tenure as Finance Minister. Authorities had seized assets from FAU due to an alleged 100-million-crown tax fraud and filed indictments, leading the company into insolvency.
However, courts have acquitted both the company and its executive. Judicial rulings indicated that the state acted unlawfully by attempting to collect the same tax twice and using excessive seizure measures. Opposition members have suggested the actions were linked to the interests of the Agrofert holding, as FAU’s warehouse was located within an Agrofert facility.
Finance Minister Alena Schillerová has defended the legality of the financial administration's actions. Former Finance Minister Zbyňek Stanjura noted that it is concerning when an independent court finds that the state has acted unlawfully.
