FAU rises in Shanghai Ranking 2026

Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) has seen a significant rise in the latest Shanghai Ranking (Academic Ranking of World Universities). Globally, the university climbed 17 positions to rank 226th, up from 243rd the previous year. Within Germany, FAU moved up two spots to reach 15th place.

The university demonstrated particular strength in research performance per capita, ranking 84th worldwide, which places it among the top 100 universities globally in this category. Additionally, FAU ranked 167th worldwide for publications in the journals Nature and Science.

Other notable improvements include the number of highly cited researchers, where the university rose from 255th to 199th place globally. In Germany, FAU now ranks 7th for scientific publications and 10th for citations per researcher.
