FAU to Charge Tuition Fees for Non‑EU Students Starting Summer 2027

Friedrich‑Alexander‑Universität Erlangen‑Nürnberg (FAU) announced that, from the summer semester of 2027, newly enrolled students from non‑EU and non‑EEA countries will be required to pay tuition fees. The fees, set between €1,000 and €6,000 per semester depending on the programme, do not apply to students already studying at the university.

The university says the charges will support the long‑term quality of teaching and the development of its infrastructure. Fee‑paying students will receive a guaranteed place in a free German language course and access to a comprehensive welcome package, including onboarding programmes and counselling services. The decision was taken jointly by the Executive Board, the Deans and the Senate, and will be explained in detail at a FAU Dialog on 7 July. All fees are in addition to the standard semester contribution of €82.
