Faulty MAN truck causes multiple accidents on Amasaman–Nsawam road

A MAN diesel truck, registration GW 3136-14, caused multiple collisions on the Amasaman–Nsawam road after experiencing brake failure. The vehicle was transporting sugar from Accra to Kumasi when the driver lost the ability to stop the truck, leading to accidents involving a Rhino vehicle and several private cars.

The incident has renewed local concerns regarding unroadworthy vehicles operating on major highways. Observations along the Pokuase–Amasaman stretch revealed numerous faulty vehicles parked by the roadside, often without adequate warning signage, posing significant risks to high-speed motorists and those driving in poor visibility.

Local residents have called upon the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) and the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) to increase inspections of vehicles on major highways. There are also calls for stricter enforcement of safety regulations and for commercial operators to prioritize regular mechanical maintenance to prevent similar accidents.
