Faustino Oro defeats Magnus Carlsen in blitz chess match

Argentine chess prodigy Faustino Oro, aged 12, achieved a significant milestone by defeating world number one Magnus Carlsen in an individual blitz game. The match, held online via Chess.com, consisted of eight games played in a 3+0 format (three minutes per player with no increment).

While Carlsen ultimately won the overall series with a score of 4-1 (including three draws), Oro’s victory in the fifth game highlighted his rapid ascent in the sport. This marks the second time the young Grandmaster has defeated Carlsen online, following a previous victory in a bullet chess match in 2024.

Oro, often referred to as the ‘Messi of chess,’ holds several records, including being the second-youngest Grandmaster in history and the youngest player to surpass 2500 ELO points in classical, rapid, and blitz formats. Carlsen has previously praised the teenager’s maturity and positional sense, noting his exceptional talent for his age.
