Fausto Jr. challenges energy profits and airfare costs in Amazonas
Federal Deputy Fausto Jr. (União Brasil) has raised concerns regarding essential service costs in the state of Amazonas, targeting both energy tariffs and aviation prices.
Regarding energy, the deputy criticized Âmbar Energia following a public consultation by the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL). Fausto Jr. expressed concern over the company's projected profit of R$ 1.5 billion for next year, which is double the R$ 750 million recorded previously. He argued that this profit projection stems from tariff flexibility that could increase electricity bills for consumers. In response, Âmbar Energia stated that its action plan includes over R$ 5 billion in investments over the next five years to modernize the grid and combat energy theft, noting that the regulatory process is standard under its concession contract.
In the aviation sector, Fausto Jr. submitted a request to the Ministry of Ports and Airports to investigate high airfare prices. He specifically cited round-trip tickets between Manaus and Tabatinga costing as much as R$ 7,419. The deputy is seeking data from the last 36 months regarding fare averages, competition, and the impact of federal tax incentives or subsidies granted to airlines operating in the region, questioning whether these benefits are translating into lower costs for residents.
