Naples security: New Questore takes office amid crime and fire emergencies

Naples is addressing several security and public order challenges through new leadership and emergency responses. Fausto Lamparelli has officially taken office as the new Questore of Naples. His stated priorities include territorial control, maintaining public order, crime suppression, and combating violence against women. Lamparelli noted that while traditional clans have been weakened by law enforcement, new fragmented groups pose risks regarding drug trafficking and extortion.

In response to recent criminal activity, including a violent robbery of a tourist on Corso Umberto I, Prefect Michele di Bari has ordered increased police presence and a zero-tolerance policy in major shopping and tourist areas. Security discussions are also focusing on the Pianura district, where arrests have increased by 33% this year.

Additionally, an industrial fire in the San Giovanni a Teduccio district (via Brin) triggered the activation of a Relief Coordination Center. The fire, which affected a warehouse and a parked vehicle, led to the evacuation of a nearby residence. Authorities have advised local residents to keep windows closed and avoid outdoor exposure due to potential respiratory irritants from the smoke.
