Favara officials demand clarity on park closure and employee misconduct
In Favara, local council members and the Council President, Miriam Mignemi, are demanding clarity from Mayor Antonio Palumbo regarding the management and deterioration of Parco di Giufà. Despite a 2022 regulation intended to allow private associations to manage municipal green spaces in exchange for fees, no public tenders have been issued. Consequently, the park has fallen into disrepair, with reports of destroyed furniture, waste, and overgrown vegetation. The area was officially closed in May 2026 due to risks to public safety.
In a separate legal matter, the Municipality of Favara has filed a claim for over 107,000 euros against 31 employees involved in the ‘Otium’ investigation. The administration is seeking compensation for both financial loss and damage to its image, following allegations of absenteeism and the fraudulent use of ID badges to mask unauthorized absences from work.
