FAW Welsh Cup: Dolgellau and Meliden advance through qualifying rounds

Recent matches in the FAW Welsh Cup second qualifying round have seen significant results for grassroots clubs. Dolgellau Athletic secured their place in the next round after a 3-1 victory over Waterloo Rovers. Owain Richards opened the scoring for Dolgellau in the 35th minute, followed by a Gerwyn Williams penalty and a late goal from Osian Morris. Conversely, Bow Street was eliminated from the competition following a penalty shoot-out loss to St Asaph City after a draw in regulation time.

In another notable upset, Tier 5 side Meliden reached the first round proper of the Welsh Cup for the first time in their history. Meliden defeated fourth-tier CPD Cerrigydrudion on penalties after the match ended in a 2-2 draw. Following a 2-2 stalemate in regulation, Meliden goalkeeper Richard Hillier-Evans saved two penalties during the shoot-out to secure the win.
