Faxe Municipality seeks clarity on school funding

Mikkel Dam, the Mayor of Faxe Municipality, has written to Minister of Economy and Interior Pia Olsen Dyhr seeking clarification regarding the potential closure of Terslev Skole. The school, which currently serves approximately 56 students, was slated for closure as part of the municipality’s 2027–2030 budget agreement approved on September 14.

The request follows a government announcement regarding the allocation of 500 million DKK intended to support small rural schools. However, the specific criteria for how these funds will be distributed among municipalities and the requirements to qualify remain unknown. Mayor Dam expressed frustration over the timing of the announcement, noting that the municipal council must finalize its budget by October 8, leaving little time to adjust local decisions based on the new national funding availability.
