Fayetteville awarded $25.1 million federal grant for corridor redevelopment

Fayetteville has been awarded a $25.1 million federal Choice Neighborhoods Implementation Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). This investment is intended to revitalize the Murchison Road corridor, marking the first time a community in eastern North Carolina has received this specific grant.

The funding will support the Murchison Choice Transformation Plan, which aims to replace aging public housing complexes, specifically the Murchison Townhouses and Elliott Circle, near Fayetteville State University. The initiative also focuses on expanding supportive services and rebuilding neighborhood infrastructure.

This federal grant is expected to leverage more than $531 million in combined public and private funding. The project will be managed by the city’s Economic and Community Development Department and the Fayetteville Metropolitan Housing Authority (FMHA), in partnership with Pennrose and Urban Strategies.
