Fazlur Rehman criticizes Pakistan Army Chief over national stability

Maulana Fazlur Rehman, leader of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), has issued a sharp critique of Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir, drawing parallels between current national instability and the 1971 war.

Addressing a conference in Peshawar, Rehman reminded the military leadership of the 1971 surrender to India. He specifically cited General Yahya Khan, who had promised the military would fight in every street and mountain just one day before the army surrendered. Rehman questioned the validity of current military claims of strength while the civilian population faces severe hardships.

Rehman expressed deep concern regarding the situation in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, describing them as war-like zones characterized by continuous bloodshed. He warned that prolonged violence and government suppression could lead to significant geographical changes and regional disintegration. He also noted the ongoing protests in Rawalakot, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the lack of dialogue with protesters could empower separatist elements.
