FBI agents face security risks following major data breach

The FBI is investigating a major data breach involving the hacking group ShinyHunters, which has reportedly compromised the personal information of tens of thousands of current and former agents. The stolen data includes highly sensitive details such as names, home addresses, phone numbers, badge numbers, job titles, and information regarding spouses.

Crucially, samples of the breached data include medical records from fitness-for-work examinations, containing blood and urine test results and physician notes. Experts note that while passwords can be changed, medical information remains permanently compromised once leaked.

The breach has caused significant concern among personnel, particularly for those working undercover, due to the risk of physical targeting, extortion, or sophisticated phishing attacks. The hackers have reportedly issued ultimatums to FBI Director Kash Patel and cyber division chief Brett Leatherman, threatening to release the full dataset.
