FBI completes Most Wanted list with capture of cybercriminal in Venezuela
FBI Director Kash Patel announced the capture of Aníbal Alexander Canelón Aguirre, also known as ‘El Ingeniero’ or ‘Prometeo,’ in Venezuela. His arrest marks the completion of the FBI’s ten most wanted fugitives list, with Patel stating, ‘We have captured 10 of 10.’
Canelón Aguirre, a Venezuelan national, is identified as the agency’s first ‘cyber fugitive.’ He is accused of leading an international conspiracy that utilized ‘ATM jackpotting’—a method involving malicious software to force ATMs to dispense cash—to steal millions of dollars from financial institutions. Authorities allege the stolen funds were used to finance the Tren de Aragua, a transnational criminal organization designated by the U.S. as a foreign terrorist group.
Canelón Aguirre was added to the most wanted list in March 2026, with a reward of up to one million dollars offered for information leading to his capture. He faces multiple federal charges, including conspiracy to commit bank fraud, bank robbery, money laundering, and providing material support to terrorists. He is currently being transferred to the United States to face judicial proceedings.
