FBI documents reveal details on Trump shooter Thomas Matthew Crooks
Newly released FBI documents, provided to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, offer new insights into the background of Thomas Matthew Crooks, the individual who attempted to assassinate Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, 2024.
In interviews with federal investigators, Crooks’ father, Matthew, described his son as a stoic and difficult-to-read individual who rarely expressed strong emotions. Matthew noted that Thomas was quiet from birth, stating, “When Thomas was born he did not scream and he was always quiet from that point on.”
The files detail a childhood marked by behavioral shifts. Matthew reported that Thomas occasionally acted out in elementary school due to boredom and that his parents suspected he had ADHD during middle school. The documents also highlight a lack of a strong father-son bond and describe Thomas as being obsessed with shooting.
