FBI holds panel at 9/11 Memorial to preserve historical lessons

The FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force recently held an all-hands panel at the 9/11 Memorial and Museum in Lower Manhattan. FBI Assistant Director James Barnacle emphasized the importance of the location to remind younger officers of the enduring impact of the September 11 attacks.

Barnacle noted that many new recruits were either too young or not yet born when the attacks occurred, stating, “it is our responsibility to ensure that the lessons of that day are not lost with time.”

Historian Nancy Gibbs observed that the attacks disrupted a period of relative peace and prosperity following the end of the Soviet Union. She noted that the global landscape has since become significantly more complex, involving new challenges such as cyber warfare, artificial intelligence, and shifting geopolitical dynamics involving China, Russia, and North Korea.
