FBI implements new strategy to disrupt cyberattacks through collaboration

The bureau aims to move from ad-hoc responses to a steady-state approach by investigating, attributing, and disrupting attacks while enhancing its own capabilities through recruitment and new tools.

Officials noted that the cyber threat environment has become too complex for any single organization to defend alone. The FBI is working to encourage companies to report hacks by promising that information shared will be used to assist victims rather than being passed to regulators.

Cybersecurity experts highlighted that the rise of artificial intelligence is lowering the barrier to entry for criminals, making attacks more efficient and frequent. The FBI's strategy includes developing customized plans to counter specific threats from actors in Russia and China, as well as targeting ransomware gangs and botnets.
