FBI investigates Delaware politician over recorded job offer

The FBI is investigating New Castle County Recorder of Deeds Mike Kozikowski following a secretly recorded meeting in which he offered a job to a political opponent. During the June 24 meeting at a restaurant near Newport, Kozikowski offered County Councilman David Tackett a newly created position with a salary of $76,295.

Tackett, who later won the Democratic primary, recorded the 90-minute conversation on his phone. The investigation follows reports that the offer could be considered a bribe, particularly as state law prohibits members of the County Council from holding other county offices. Tackett and his campaign manager have confirmed they are communicating with federal authorities in Wilmington regarding the matter.
