FBI raid on mother of Michigan Senate candidate revealed

Eman Abdelhadi, a University of Chicago professor and sister of Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, has revealed in past writings that the FBI raided her family home in the early 2000s. The raid was likely connected to an investigation into the Islamic American Relief Agency (IARA), an Islamic philanthropic organization where their mother, Fatten Elkomy, was employed.

The IARA was one of several Muslim philanthropic groups closed by the FBI during that period after the Treasury Department designated its network for funding terrorism. While court exhibits reportedly named Elkomy 14 times in connection to the agency, she was not charged with a crime.

Abdul El-Sayed has dismissed claims regarding family connections to the Muslim Brotherhood as hearsay.
