FBI removes Accenture contractor after major data breach

The FBI has removed an Accenture contractor following a significant data breach that exposed the sensitive personal information of thousands of bureau employees. According to FBI cyber chief Brett Leatherman, the incident resulted from a security failure on a platform managed by a third-party organization after the contractor failed to implement a specifically issued security patch.

While the FBI did not officially name the platform, sources indicate it was Oracle’s PeopleSoft human resources software. The hacking group ShinyHunters previously claimed to have exploited this platform to infiltrate the FBI’s recruitment site last month. In response to the breach, the FBI stated it has taken measures to mitigate further risks and protect its workforce. Accenture expressed its continued commitment to supporting the FBI's mission but did not comment on the specific contractor or the alleged failure to update the system.

In a related development, a suspect believed to be a member of the ShinyHunters hacking group was arrested in Jordan and is reportedly cooperating with the FBI.
