FBI Seizes Phone and Laptop from Lakers Owner Mark Walter in Chicago Airport Search

Federal agents from the FBI seized Mark Walter’s mobile phone and laptop at Chicago’s Midway Airport on 18 September 2025. The seizure was part of a broad investigation into the financial activities of Walter’s business empire, including the insurance companies overseen by TWG Global and the investment firm Guggenheim Partners. Prosecutors are examining whether private‑credit investments linked to those entities were disclosed properly.

No criminal charges have been filed yet. Walter, who bought the Los Angeles Lakers last summer in a deal estimated at about $10 billion, also owns the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Los Angeles Sparks, holds stakes in Chelsea FC, the Professional Women’s Hockey League and other sports properties. TWG Global said it is cooperating fully with authorities and believes the matter will be resolved positively.
