FBI warns of data theft risks from public USB charging ports

The FBI has issued an urgent warning regarding the security risks associated with using public USB charging ports in locations such as airports, hotels, and shopping centers.

Cybercriminals are utilizing a technique known as ‘Juice Jacking’ to compromise devices. Because USB cables transmit both power and data, attackers can intercept these ports to install malware or surveillance software. Once a device is connected to a compromised port, hackers may gain unauthorized access to sensitive information, including emails, text messages, photos, contacts, and banking credentials.
