Fábio Trad seeks Mato Grosso do Sul governorship
Fábio Trad, a former federal deputy and candidate for the governorship of Mato Grosso do Sul, has outlined his platform for the upcoming elections. Representing the Workers' Party (PT), Trad proposes a shift in the state's economic matrix by investing in industrialization and technology to reduce dependence on commodity exports. He also aims to combat organized crime through state reorganization and territorial reoccupation via economic and cultural development.
His educational proposals include increasing public service exams for teachers to reduce the reliance on temporary staff. Additionally, Trad emphasized the need for specific planning for cities along the Bioceanic Route to ensure local populations benefit from the corridor's growth.
The PT's candidacy marks an attempt to return to power in the state after nearly two decades. The party recently broke away from the governing base of Eduardo Riedel, an ally of Flávio Bolsonaro, to pursue its own project for 2026. Trad's ticket includes Gilda Maria as vice-candidate and is supported by a coalition including PCdoB, PV, PSB, and PDT.
