FC Argeș and Sepsi match marred by xenophobia and referee controversy

The Romanian SuperLiga's seventh round concluded with significant controversy during the match between FC Argeș and Sepsi OSK, which ended in a 0-1 victory for Sepsi.

During the game at Mioveni, home supporters directed xenophobic chants toward Hungarian players and Hungary for approximately ten minutes. Referee George Roman did not stop the match, drawing criticism from commentators who suggested he should have been penalized for failing to intervene.

Additionally, the match was marred by a controversial late goal in the 89th minute by Bogdan Oteliță. FC Argeș players claimed a foul occurred just before the goal, resulting in an injury to Florin Borța, who required medical attention for a bleeding leg. The VAR system reportedly failed to function during this critical phase, preventing a review. FC Argeș manager Bogdan Andone criticized the officiating and the lack of communication from the refereeing crew, demanding more respect for coaches.
