FC Barcelona cancels Tangier friendly amid Ceuta migration crisis

FC Barcelona announced the cancellation of its pre‑season friendly against Ittihad Riadi Tangier, which had been scheduled for 15 August in Tangier, Morocco. The club said the “current uncertainty and circumstances” linked to the massive influx of migrants into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta made it unsafe to travel and play the match.

The decision is expected to cost the club around €4.5 million in lost match fees. Barcelona’s statement emphasized player and staff safety as the priority. The cancellation follows an earlier scrapped friendly with Preston North End and comes as the team prepares for other pre‑season fixtures, including a triangular tournament in Udine, Italy against Nottingham Forest and Udinese, and a match against Al Ahly in Egypt before the La Liga season begins on 23 August.
