FC Barcelona completes squad registrations for Gerard Martín and Marc Bernal
FC Barcelona will begin its La Liga campaign on 23 August, a month after the World Cup final in which many of its key players – Lamine Yamal, Pedri, Dani Olmo, Pau Cubarsí and others – were part of the victorious Spanish side. With those stars on extended rest and some, like Frenkie de Jong, still injured, coach Hansi Flick must start the season with players who completed a full preseason.
The club used the fair‑play financial rules to register two young prospects: defender Gerard Martín, who could not be listed earlier because of age restrictions, and midfielder Marc Bernal, who entered the first‑team roster on the last day of the summer transfer window. Both were initially signed for a single season; Bernal’s contract has now been extended through 2029, while Martín remains on a one‑year deal.
Goalkeeper Joan Garcia, speaking after the World Cup triumph, said Barcelona’s primary objective this season is to win the Champions League, praising sporting director Deco’s work and noting potential signings such as Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi. He also expressed confidence that star forward Ferran Torres will stay at the club.
