FC Barcelona basketball begins major rebuild under new director Xevi Pujol

FC Barcelona's basketball section has started a comprehensive roster overhaul led by 36‑year‑old director of sport Xevi Pujol, who describes the project as the club's biggest reconstruction in recent years. The club appointed Slovenian Aleksander Sekulic as head coach and is actively seeking to fill the void left by several departures, including Toko Shengelia to Dubai, Nikola Kusturica to the NCAA, and a dozen other players.

The team aims to field a younger squad, with the projected average age dropping to 26.9 years – the lowest since the 2013‑14 season. Recent signings such as Josh Nebo and Olek Balcerowski bolster the frontcourt, while the club continues to search for a reference pivot and a versatile forward. Pujol emphasized the differing timelines of the European and American markets, stating that the club remains proactive and open to options to complete the roster.

The rebuild is intended to end a recent title drought and restore Barcelona to the forefront of European basketball competition.
