FC Barcelona defensive changes involve Cortes departure and Nijstad interest

FC Barcelona is undergoing defensive squad changes as defender Alvaro Cortes prepares for a permanent transfer to the Belgian club Royal Antwerp. The 20-year-old, who made his first-team debut last season, sought a move to ensure regular playing time rather than returning to the reserve side. Barcelona is reportedly retaining a buy-back clause in the deal.

To bolster their defensive options, Barcelona is also linked to 18-year-old left-footed centre-back Ruud Nijstad from the Dutch club FC Twente. While Barcelona has reportedly made contact regarding the tall defender, FC Twente has indicated they are not looking to sell the player this summer.
