Manel del Río to resign as FC Barcelona General Director
Manel del Río, the General Director (CEO) of FC Barcelona, will leave the club at the end of this month. His departure, described as being by “mutual agreement,” follows his appointment to the role in September 2025.
Del Río, who has been with the club since 2022 and previously served as financial director, informed President Joan Laporta of his decision and recently bid farewell to the club’s Steering Committee. The position of General Director is expected to remain vacant for the time being.
This leadership change occurs during a critical period for the club’s finances. While Barcelona has regained compliance with LaLiga’s financial fair-play rules, the institution is managing significant debt and recent credit expansions to fund the Espai Barça project and the renovation of the Spotify Camp Nou.
Sergio Serrano, who joined the club this summer from Banco Sabadell as financial director, will take on increased responsibilities, including managing much of the functions previously held by Del Río as the club enters a “new financial stage.”
