FC Barcelona mourns worker killed in Camp Nou renovation

A 54‑year‑old Romanian construction worker died after receiving a blow while working on the renovation of FC Barcelona’s Camp Nou stadium. The incident occurred on a Friday, prompting emergency services to attend but they could not revive the man.

The club released a statement saying it "deeply regrets the death" and extended condolences to the worker’s family, friends and colleagues. President Joan Laporta personally offered his support and pledged the club’s assistance to the bereaved.

Renovation work, which began in June 2023 and aims to raise the stadium’s capacity to 105,000, is scheduled for completion in early 2028. Catalan regional police have opened an investigation into the workplace accident.
