Julian Alvarez saga: Atletico files FIFA complaint vs Barcelona

Argentina forward Julián Álvarez, currently under contract with Atlético Madrid, publicly stated his wish to leave for FC Barcelona. Atlético’s chief executive Miguel Ángel Gil Marín announced that the club has lodged a formal complaint with FIFA, accusing Barcelona of breaching the protected‑period rules by discussing a transfer while Álvarez remains under contract. The club reiterated its €500 million release clause and said it will not sell for less.

Barcelona midfielder Pedri praised Álvarez, saying “Julian as a player I like him a lot… if the deal goes through, welcome aboard.” Real Madrid has also shown interest, reportedly considering Álvarez as a possible replacement for Vinícius Júnior. Arsenal and Paris Saint‑Germain were mentioned as other suitors.

Atlético’s supporters, through the Union of Atlético Fan Clubs, denounced Álvarez as a “malcriado” and “traidor,” comparing him to past dissenters. The dispute has sparked heated debate among fans and media across Spain and Europe.
