However, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has maintained a firm stance that the player is not for sale. To protect the club from a bidding war involving English Premier League interest, Barcelona has set a high release clause of 500 million euros in López's contract, which runs until 2031. The club intends to reject any negotiations unless the full clause is met.
