FC Barcelona rejects wearing solidarity shirts for Ceuta

FC Barcelona has announced it will not wear solidarity shirts supporting the city of Ceuta during its upcoming match against Racing Santander. The club stated its decision is based on a desire to avoid involvement in what it considers “Spanish politics,” emphasizing that while the club supports social causes, it intends to keep sports separate from political agendas.

The decision follows a period of controversy in La Liga regarding players wearing shirts with the slogan “Todos somos ceutíes” (We are all from Ceuta) following recent migration waves in the region. While some clubs and players have participated in these solidarity initiatives, Barcelona has opted for a collective stance to maintain a strictly sporting focus.

This situation contrasts with Real Madrid, where players such as Vinícius Júnior, Kylian Mbappé, and Ibrahima Konaté reportedly made individual decisions regarding similar gestures, leading to different reactions from fans. Additionally, Moroccan player Abdellah Zézouli faced significant backlash and threats after wearing a solidarity shirt during a match against Villarreal, later clarifying his position in a public statement.
