FC Barcelona seeks new investment to manage rising project debts

FC Barcelona is navigating significant financial challenges as it manages the massive costs of the ‘Espai Barça’ project. The club is launching a €210 million bond issuance to address cash flow gaps caused by the commencement of repayments for the project while the Spotify Camp Nou is not yet fully operational.

Total club debt could exceed €2.6 billion, driven largely by the rising costs of the Camp Nou renovation. The overall budget for Espai Barça has reached €1.8 billion, triple the amount originally approved in 2014. To manage this, the club recently obtained authorization for €510 million in additional debt: €300 million for construction and €210 million for operational needs.

To attract investors, the club is offering repayment priority based on future television broadcasting revenues. This follows a previous €105 million placement in July. The club expects the new 105,000-capacity stadium to be fully operational by the 2028-2029 season, which is critical for generating the revenue required to service its debt.
