FC Barcelona seeks new striker to fill Lewandowski void ahead of 2025‑26 season

FC Barcelona will start the 2025‑26 campaign without former record scorer Robert Lewandowski, who left the club for Chicago Fire. Coach Hansi Flick must rebuild the attack, focusing on finding a central striker to replace the Polish forward. The club has explored internal options such as a false‑nine role for Lamine Yamal and other squad members, while also monitoring external targets.

In the summer window Barcelona added two wingers: Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United for an estimated €70‑80 million and German forward Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund for around €22‑29 million. Both are expected to broaden the front line and give Flick tactical flexibility. The club also secured a contract extension for defender Andreas Christensen until 2028.

While Barcelona secured these signings, rival Real Madrid has been spending significantly more on new players. Barcelona’s first La Liga match of the season is scheduled for the weekend of 14‑16 August 2026 at Spotify Camp Nou against Athletic Bilbao.
