FC Barcelona signs Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United

FC Barcelona has completed the signing of English forward Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United for an initial fee of €70 million, with potential add-ons bringing the total to €80 million. The transfer, which marks the club's first major move for the 2026/27 season, involves a five-year contract running until 2031.

Sporting director Deco reportedly managed the negotiations discreetly, including trips to London to secure the player despite interest from other clubs like Liverpool. The move received direct approval from manager Hansi Flick, who identified Gordon's versatility and performance metrics as ideal for the squad's tactical needs.

Prior to securing Gordon, Barcelona had also explored other midfield options, including Javi Guerra from Valencia CF, before ultimately focusing on major signings like Rodri. Gordon has since commented on the transition from the Premier League to La Liga, noting the shift from the high-intensity physical style of English football to the tactical and technical demands of the Spanish league.
