FC Barcelona targets Julian Alvarez and defensive reinforcements

FC Barcelona is actively navigating the transfer market to address squad needs ahead of the new season. The club is currently focused on two primary areas: central attack and defensive reinforcement.

To solve a potential shortage of natural strikers following the departure of Robert Lewandowski and interest in Ferran Torres from Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona is pursuing Argentine forward Julian Alvarez. While negotiations are ongoing, the club faces challenges regarding Atletico Madrid's willingness to sell the player, who was acquired by the Madrid club for 75 million euros in 2024.

In defense, sporting director Deco is seeking a high-quality left-footed center-back to suit Hans Flick's high defensive line, particularly following Ronald Araujo's loan to Liverpool. Potential targets include Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao and RB Leipzig's Castello Lukeba. While Laporte offers experience and familiarity with La Liga, Lukeba provides youth and physical strength, though his acquisition would be more financially demanding due to his long-term contract.
