FC Barcelona targets Sporting CP defender Iván Fresneda

FC Barcelona is reportedly monitoring Sporting CP defender Iván Fresneda as a potential long-term option for the right-back position. The 22-year-old Spaniard has seen increasing responsibility at Sporting since joining in 2023, accumulating 89 appearances and 4 goals for the club.

Barcelona’s interest follows a shift in the hierarchy of their defensive line. Jules Koundé has reportedly lost ground in the right-back rotation, with Eric Garcia seeing more prominence due to Koundé’s recent dip in form. Additionally, Koundé has drawn interest from Bayern Munich ahead of the January transfer window, which may force Barcelona to make decisions regarding their defensive depth.

Fresneda is noted for his ability to progress the ball through carries and passing, combined with defensive stability. He recently received his first call-up to the Spanish national team for the Nations League following an injury to Pedro Porro.
