FC Basel appoints Slavisa Jokanovic as coach and Andreas Böni to leadership

FC Basel is implementing significant changes to its leadership and coaching staff. Slavisa Jokanovic has been appointed as the new head coach, succeeding Stephan Lichtsteiner. The 58-year-old Serbian manager, who previously coached Al-Nasr in the United Arab Emirates and has experience with clubs such as Fulham and Watford, is expected to sign a contract through the end of the season. His first training session is scheduled for next Tuesday, with his competitive debut anticipated on October 3 during a friendly against FC Winterthur.

In addition to the coaching change, the club is expanding its management and communication structure. Andreas Böni will join the organization as Managing Director of FC Basel Holding AG and Chief Communications & Club Media Officer of FC Basel 1893 AG. Böni, a veteran sports journalist with over 25 years of experience, will serve as a link between the owners, management, and the club. He is set to officially assume his role by April 1, 2027, though he will recuse himself from Super League-related topics in his current role at Blue Sport effective immediately.
