FC Basel appoints Slavisa Jokanovic as new head coach

FC Basel has appointed Slavisa Jokanovic as its new head coach following the dismissal of Stefan Lichtsteiner. The decision came after a series of disappointing results during the first seven rounds of the season.

Technical Director Andreas Herman stated that the club had a list of candidates ready when the decision to part ways with Lichtsteiner was made, noting that the club quickly agreed Jokanovic was the right fit due to his experience handling difficult situations. Jokanovic brings extensive international experience, having coached in England, Spain, Russia, Israel, and Qatar, including a notable tenure at Fulham.

Basel President David Degen expressed satisfaction with the appointment. While Jokanovic’s current contract runs until the end of the season, the 58-year-old coach has indicated a desire to remain at the club long-term if successful.
