NHL and FC Bayern Munich announce strategic partnership to grow hockey in Germany

The National Hockey League (NHL) and FC Bayern Munich have announced a strategic multiyear partnership aimed at accelerating the growth of hockey in Germany and expanding FC Bayern’s presence in North America. The collaboration will focus on cross-sport initiatives, including community engagement, youth outreach, and original content development.

As part of the NHL’s international expansion strategy, the league also confirmed plans for the 2027 NHL Global Series in Germany. During the 2027-28 season, the Boston Bruins are scheduled to play two regular-season games in Munich, while the Edmonton Oilers will play two games in Cologne. These events follow the 2026 NHL Global Series games in Düsseldorf featuring the Chicago Blackhawks and Ottawa Senators.

The partnership was unveiled at FC Bayern’s training facility in the presence of NHL players Leon Draisaitl and JJ Peterka, alongside FC Bayern player Alphonso Davies. Officials noted the potential for future large-scale events, including the possibility of outdoor games at the Allianz Arena.
