FC Famalicão begins pre‑season with new signings while Benfica trains under Marco Silva
Portuguese club FC Famalicão started its pre‑season on Tuesday with medical examinations and fitness tests at its training centre. The squad has added four new players: former Paris Saint‑Germain midfielder Mathis Jangae, Hungarian international midfielder Tamás Szűcs from Debreceni (€2.5 million), central defender Finn van Breemen from Basel and left‑back Leny Meyer from Stuttgart's reserve side. Departures include centre‑back Justin de Haas moving to Valencia, midfielder Mamageishvili loaned to Wolfsberger, and forward Simon Elisor sold for about €1.5 million. The club has scheduled friendly matches against its own U‑23 side, Lusitânia de Lourosa, Penafiel, Arouca, Felgueiras, Tondela and will finish the preparation at the Como Cup in Italy, where it will face Crystal Palace and RC Lens.
Meanwhile, Benfica held a second pre‑season session in Seixal under new head coach Marco Silva. Players completed a high‑intensity gym workout followed by pitch drills while the club’s general assembly took place at the Estádio da Luz. A long list of squad members participated, including Trubin, Sudakov, Gabriel Índio, Barrenechea, Prestianni, Leandro Barreiro, Anísio Cabral, Ivanovic, Pavlidis, Bruma, Gonçalo Moreira, André Gomes, Samuel Soares, Diogo Ferreira and others. Several players were absent due to national team duties for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
